Below are several images of Nauvoo where members of our family made their home.
The pictures above (left to right) are an early view of Miron Datin's residence on Young St., between Page and Barnett streets, with his family. Miron was the son of Valentine Datin. The photo on the right is of the same home in 2003.
Joseph Noel Datin and Catherine Ann Sparks were married in 1848 at Quincy, Illinois and came to live in Sonora Township of Hancock County a year later. Eventually they became parents of 15 children. As early as 1875 he sold agricultural equipment, grass seeds and school furniture at Nauvoo in partnership with Mr. Knaust. Joseph was first elected Mayor of Nauvoo in 1884 and served until his resignation in 1902. He began his political career in 1875 as Nauvoo Township Clerk, Assessor in 1878, and Supervisor in 1880. He was one of six men who organized Nauvoo's first bank, the State Bank of Nauvoo which still exists today. Upon his passing on May 3, 1902, the Nauvoo City Council passed a resolution acknowledging his loss to the community. His wife, Catherine Ann, knowns as "Kitty," passed away in 1907 and is buried alongside her husband in Nauvoo City Cemetery #2. According to her obituary, "She was of a bright and sunny disposition, of kind heart and generous impulses...."
